Revelation is a fascinating and perplexing book, and conjures up a whole host of images just at its mention. Rather than avoid it, however, we need to receive it as it was written to be-a blessing to God's people (1:3). In the weeks to come, we will be encouraged to persevere, grow more aware of spiritual battles, engage our hearts in worship, and gain a clearer picture of our glorious future. Most of all, we will see Christ, which is what John spends Chapter 1 detailing! In this opening passage, we see the great benefit of reading God's Word (vv. 1-3), the essential components of the Gospel message (vv. 4-6), and the splendor of Christ himself (vv. 7-20). All of this encourages us to read the Scriptures, remember the good news, and revel in the splendor of our Savior.
