Advent is upon us as we begin the four weeks leading up to the celebration of Jesus's incarnation. The word "advent" comes from the Latin word for "coming," and speaks to both Jesus' coming in the flesh to redeem a people for Himself and also of His second comingwhere He promises to make all things new! Of all the seasons of the church year, Advent most closely mirrors our daily lives as Christians because we too are waiting and hoping in the promises of God displayed in the once and future coming of Jesus Christ. So this Advent season, my prayer is that the Lord would create in us a deeper love for our Savior and stir in us all a greater longing for His 2nd coming - that we would learn what it means to be an Advent people who live in light of Psalm 130:5 which says, "I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I put my trust." So as we prepare our hearts for this Advent season, I wanted to point you to a few resources that you might find helpful:
- Paul David Tripp, Come Let Us Adore Him
- Sinclair Ferguson, The Dawn of Redeeming Grace
- John Piper, The Dawning of Indestructible Joy
