Ephesus-Keeping the Lamp Lit at NCCC

January 29, 2012 Speaker: Michael Craddock Series: Revelation: More Than Conquerors

Topic: Sermons Scripture: Revelation 2:1–2:7

In these verses John records Jesus' message for the church in Ephesus (2:1).  In it, Jesus asserts his authority over the church as the one who causes the church to continue to function as a lamp for the gospel (v.1), and as the one who has the ability to cause it to cease to be a lamp as welel (v.5).  Jesus also commends the church in Ephesus for its doctrinal discernment in combating false teachers (vv. 2-3,6), but then Jesus goes on to correct the church in Ephesus for abandoning its first love by failing to show love, i.e., the "works they did at first," (v.5).  Jesus ends his address to the church in Ephesus by reminding them of the award that awaits those who have faith in him. (v.7).
